Manufacturing Engineer

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Advanced Machining facility in Shepshed.

Principal Role & Responsibilities:

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support through owning parts and processes in our component manufacturing facility
  • Specialise in “hot gas path” turbine products – turbine blades and vanes
  • Provide programming capability for processes such as EDM hole drilling, Die Sink & Grinding
  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering activities
  • Provide day to day support for existing product lines
  • Employ continuous improvement methodologies to reduce defects & improve RFT
  • Support the design, delivery and prove out of tooling & fixturing solutions
  • Create and implement manufacturing documentation/work instructions (ISO9001 / AS9100D)
  • Reduce non-conformance through structured & targeted process improvement
  • Own and improve process capability (cp & cpk) using data analysis tools e.g. SPC / Minitab
  • Solve problems in a structured manner e.g. 3C / 8D / DMAIC

Formal Qualifications:

  •  Industry recognised qualifications

Experience / Knowledge Requirements:

  • Ability to read and understand complex drawings connected with aerospace component manufacture
  • Fanuc, Siemens 840D & Heidenhain controls on Blohm / Makino / FGC machines
  • Experience with conventional machining tooling and fixtures
  • Ability to understand and articulate 3D geometry using to support fixture design and manufacture
  • Ability to utilise NX and Inventor, CAD systems
  • Knowledge of improvement methodologies and how to apply them in a manufacturing environment to improve KPIs (Quality, Cost, Delivery)

The following would be an advantage:

  • Six Sigma accredited
  • Worked in a Turbine Blade / Compressor Manufacturing Environment.
  • Familiar with Land / Air based Gas turbine components
  • Experience of high speed Viper Grinding processes
  • Familiarity with 5 axis CNC grinding programming
  • Worked with Rolls Royce, Siemens, GE components
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems e.g. Factory Master / SAP

Skills & Aptitudes Required:

  • Strong planning and organisation skills, ability to multi-task and deal with a varied workload
  • IT literate with all Microsoft packages
  • Structured thinker with the ability to see improvements through to completion
  • A passion for engineering coupled with a drive to deliver capable processes

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
