Commercial Engineer

The applicant will utilise excellent technical, communication and interpersonal skills to work as part of a cross functional team to deliver end to end support, from quotations for potential new customers to the delivery of capable and robust processes to support WAM Manufacturing requirements, working in a zero defects environment.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Direct customer contact for enquiries and quotes
  • Drive adherence to the NPI gated process, highlighting, managing and mitigating risks as appropriate
  • Involvement in PPAP and APQP structured product introduction tools
  • Accountable for enquiry download via customer web portals
  • Responsible for all enquiry management/tracking together with enquiry review (as part of contract review – includes obtaining authorisation).  Produce periodic status reports.
  • Generating of estimates for review with engineering for enquiries, Creating Component Cost Worksheets (CCW’s) etc. when required
  • Compiling of customer quotations which  will include all supplier RFQ’s (Request for Quotation) for materials, coatings, etc. working with or through Winbro UK Purchasing
  • Creating presentable quotation packs as required
  • Interact with customers on new projects from the initial Design for Manufacture (DFM) workshops to Request for Quotation (RFQ) stage.  In addition to support new and existing project improvement programmes.
  • Present potential new work load & capacity plan detail to enable forward resource planning
  • Quickly and effectively evaluate new drawing and process change requests from customer as part of quality system.
  • Existing job costing review – generating new pricing where required.
  • Support a zero defects culture that focuses on proactive improvement methodologies and risk reduction eg PFMEA, Build in Quality, PPAP.
  • Close team work with Engineering manager, engineering team and Production Supervisor to ensure all anticipated in-load is understood and planned.
  • Support Engineering and Production with aspects of activity related to technical and or commercial related activities as required.  For example: Component Manufacturing Guides when new technical or quality acceptance standards need to be incorporated.
  • Additional non-core activities include, but not exclusively:
    • Support production and quality on occasions where required to ensure effective running of the business.  For example Occasional route card generation or concession issues.
    • Help ensure ERP system information is live and accurate at all times


  • Ideally degree educated in an Engineering discipline

Experience / Knowledge Requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience working in a engineering manufacturing environment
  • Ideally practical experience and understanding of aero and industrial gas turbine parts manufacture
  • Ideally experienced in delivering new component manufacturing programs (NPI)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings used to produce complex turbine components
  • Ability to understand and articulate 3D geometry
  • Worked in a AS9100/NAPCAP quality environment
  • Experienced in customer interaction

Skills and Aptitudes required:

  • Ability to multitask and deal with a varied workload
  • Knowledge of EDM, laser and grinding processes would be an advantage
  • Effective written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent MS Office skills
  • CAD and ERP/MRP experience would be an advantage
